When MSL Counselling May Not Be the Right Service
We want to be honest about what MSL can and can’t safely offer. This helps protect you and make sure you receive the level
of support that matches what you’re going through.
MSL is not suitable on its own if you:
- Need to go into detail about a specific traumatic event or abuse that caused PTSD
- Have a diagnosis such as Borderline / Emotionally Unstable Personality Disorder (BPD/EUPD),
Bipolar Disorder, or another personality disorder and need intensive, long‑term therapy
- Are currently struggling with an addiction (alcohol, drugs, gambling, etc.) where specialist
addiction support is more appropriate
- Have very complex or long‑term trauma that needs deep trauma‑focused work (for example EMDR or long‑term therapy)
- Are in active crisis, have recent suicide attempts, or feel at immediate risk of harming yourself or others
If you already have a diagnosis
You can still use MSL counselling if you have a diagnosis such as PTSD, bipolar, or a personality disorder as long as:
- You are currently stable, and not in immediate crisis
- You are looking for support with day‑to‑day coping, boundaries, relationships or work stress
- You understand that MSL cannot offer in‑depth trauma processing or intensive long‑term therapy
If we feel that a different type of support would be safer or more appropriate, we will explain this and can help signpost you to
other services. If any payment has already been taken for a bundle that we cannot safely offer, it will be refunded.
Crisis and urgent support
MSL is not an emergency or crisis service. If you feel at immediate risk, or your situation feels out of control, please contact:
- Your GP or NHS 111
- Your local Crisis Team, if you have their details
- Emergency services on 999 if you are in immediate danger
- Samaritans on 116 123 (free, 24/7)
By continuing, you confirm that you understand the type of support MSL can offer and that this feels like the right level of help for you.
